Tell me if this sounds familiar. You are so excited and elated because you feel like you have found your financial gold mine. You have started out in your own business, and you can’t wait to see the checks start rolling in. You get set up, and then you hit a wall because you don’t have a strong internet marketing presence.
You know that you need to have an internet marketing presence, but are completely overwhelmed by all the information there is out on the Internet. Everyone is telling you to go in a different direction, telling you that their method is the way to guaranteed success in the shortest period of time.
One of the most important lessons that I learned from internet and network marketing is that people sure love to talk. They talk about their own success, what you should be doing, and show you proof that their way is the best way. However, one lacking concept is that EVERYONE can tell you what to do, but FEW people out there SHOW you how to actually create an internet marketing presence.
Well, have no fear…today I’m going to walk you through precisely what you need to establish your internet marketing presence, in detail and exactly where you need to go to get these things done.
So let’s get crackin’…
First things first in developing an internet marketing presence: get yourself a Facebook business page. People need to know that you have your own business, and just changing your personal profile isn’t going to cut it. It absolutely makes me cringe when I ask entrepreneurs what their business page is, and they give me their personal profile. Setting up a page is very simple.
Go to https://www.facebook.com/business/build to get started. Click on “Create Page”.
I’m a fan of promoting your internet marketing presence as a company over a person, so choose the organization/company category.
The next step is to choose your category in establishing your internet marketing presence. I choose “Internet/Software” as my industry of choice, but you are welcome to make it whatever you want, depending on what your business specialty is.
Next is the company name. Keep it simple, and choose a name that rolls off the tongue easily, and is something people can remember. Don’t create a name that gives people that notion that you are pidgeonholing yourself in a specific industry, especially if you plan on being a generalized resource for multiple skill sets.
When you are done, click the “I Agree” box and click on “Get Started”.
Now, at this juncture, you are going to have to create a Facebook account if you don’t have one. If you have one already, then just choose “I already have a Facebook account” and sign in.
And then…SHAZAM! Your internet marketing presence has begun!
Now that you have established your page, this is what you want to do to develop your internet marketing presence:
1) Just like buying a new car, you want to customize and personalize your Facebook page. Choose a professional image, and please…for the sake of your business, keep it clean.
2) For the banner image of your business page, I would highly recommend that you either create a professional branded banner, or spend a little bit of money and have a graphic designer create one for you. Just make sure that the cover image is 851 x 315. To change your cover photo, mouse over your cover photo location, and click on “Change Cover Photo”.
3) Once you have your pictures set up, the next step for internet marketing presence is to fill out your profile. You want to write a strong description of what your business does, but focus it to your target market’s primary problem. You want to instantly compel your customer to follow your page just by looking at your profile.
4) Another way to help with internet marketing presence is to customize your Facebook tabs. This procedure involves a bit more technical prowess, but it is still very doable. There is a fantastic tutorial from HubSpot here:
Or if you want to outsource the process, go to fiverr.com and find someone to make the tab for you for $5.
For your tabs, add capture pages to get people to opt-in to your email lists, as well as videos, websites, or testimonials that are relevant to your brand.
Now that your page is all “tricked” out, you are ready to roll. Your page is complete, and you are ready to promote it and develop your internet marketing presence. In the next post, I am going to go over content creation and page likes. I know that is the meat of the subject in terms of internet marketing presence, so I will reserve a dedicated post just to that. So stay tuned!
